A must-read for veterans

I've been playing WoW since Vanilla launched in November 2004, and I thought I knew everything. This book proved me wrong. The section detailing the 'Corrupted Blood' incident from 2005—where a virtual plague wiped out entire cities because of a programming oversight with Hakkar—was a massive nostalgia trip. Fernandes perfectly captures how crazy those early days were. A must-read for veterans.

Great collection of facts!

I especially loved the deep dive into the original RTS games from the 90s, like Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. It's wild to see how much the lore evolved from a simple Humans vs. Orcs setting into cosmic battles with Old Gods. Giving it 4 stars because the timeline gets a little jumpy when switching between the books and the game lore, but overall it's a solid resource.

Really interesting

I bought this for my boyfriend who spends half his life in Azeroth. I started reading it myself and honestly, it's really interesting. I had no idea there was an in-game holiday called 'Children's Week' where players take orphans on quests. It shows a weirdly sweet side to a game about war. He loves the book and keeps quoting facts at me while we eat dinner.

Hilarious developer comments

The author clearly spent a lot of time reading through old forums and patch notes. The fact that he included the jokes Blizzard used to hide in the patch notes is hilarious—I completely forgot about some of those sneaky developer comments from the Burning Crusade era. There are a few minor typos in the later chapters, but nothing that ruins the experience.
